Yes, the festival season is truly upon us already.
One weekend after we're blanketed in snow we get the news flash that Glastonbury hasn't sold out in the space of half an hour, and the comedy line-ups of this years favourite festivals are filling nicely.
This yearSuch Small Portions is set to bring you the highlights of this years comedy tents; from the bizarre fringe talent we hope to unearth at Brighton, Buxton and Edinburgh, to the showcase cabaret and comedy tents from Glastonbury to Latitude, which are truly mouthwatering events.
Brighton Fringe
May 4th -27th
England's biggest fringe festival and only a stones throw down the road at Brighton. All the pre-edinburgh set will look to be honing their new shows at this month long soiree, which should throw up a few new gems as well.
Highlights include :
The opening weekend includes the Pros from Dover with their eclectic bundle of comedy sketches, Chippenham hopeful Will Hodgson and the late night cabaret at the
More information: visit the Brighton Fringe site.
Hay Festival
22nd May - 30 May
Get out the pimms and start quaffing, Hay is possibly the most pretentious festival on this rock we call Earth. But its worth it to mix with the beautiful and famous amongst us.
Glastonbury style the line-up is yet to announced but SSP will be on hand to check out the thoughts of the best writers and critics the Grauniad can throw at us
Hay Festival's official website is here.
Glastonbury
27th 28th 29th June
The mother of all festivals reached its comedy peak sometime ago but don't be too disheartened. Altough the line-up hasn't been announced just yet, there is sure to be at least one major headliner and a compendium of smaller cabaret acts to make it worth the mud and flooded tents.
The Glastonbury website is here.

Newbury Comedy Festival
5 - 12 July 2008
Another festival jumping on the Edinburgh Bandwagon? Hopefully not, but since the press have little else to say about the Berkshire town which is home to Vodaphone they compared it to the capital of Scotland. Newbury has some excellent acts though including, Scratch Improv, the Penny Dreadfuls, Chris Addison, Richard Herring and Michael Mcintyre and Craig Campbell to name but a few.

The Mighty Boosh Festival 2008
Satudray 5th July
A lot has been said about the Boosh's first festival venture. From grand proclamations of Comedy being the new Rock n Roll, to Noel Fielding's love for Gary Numan.
The title alone suggests that 2008 will be followed by 2009, so the Boosh could become a permanent festival fixture.
There's some top notch comedians heading up the comedy side of the festival including: Ross Noble, Josie Long, Mark Watson, Milton Jones, Wil Hodgson, Tom Basden, Pappy's Fun Club, David O'Doherty, Simon Munnery, Andrew Lawrence, Dan Clark, Robin Ince, Arnab Chanda, Paul Foot, Gregg Fleet, Tim Key, Paul Sinha and Tony Law.
Headlining of course are the Boosh themselves and musical delights come in the form of Jarvis Cocker, the aforementioned Gary Numan, The Kills and the Charlatans among others. All round a good day in the Kent countryside.

Latitude
17-20 July 2008
Latitude is simply so exciting it is hard to control oneself. If the star studded comedy tent line-up isn't good enough then the late night spectacle which is the Cabaret tent should keep the most sadistic of you happy until the Monday morning.
The comedy line-up includes: the likes of last year's headliner Bill Bailey - will he won't he preach his Ham Hamster song? who knows. Ross Noble, Phil Hall and Omid Djalili, Russell Howard, WSPA favourite Tim Minchin, Simon Amstell, Otis Lee Grenshaw, the ever luscious Lucy Porter, Andrew Lawrence, Dave Fulton, Dan Atkinson, Jason Wood, Ben Norris, Jon Richardson, Carey Marx, Stephen Grant, Hal Gruttenden and Miles Jupp.
Festival highlight: Phil Jupitus and friends Improv - a must see after the success of last year.

Secret Garden Party
24 - 27th July
A festival favourite with many, the Secret Garden Party is a surrealist's dream. An ecletic line-up, art installations and quirky acts which are a pleasure to discover.
This year's line-up includes Saint Etienne and Morcheeba but the main draw for Secret Garden is the sideshows such as building your own go-kart, The theme for 08 is Come the Revolutions, and if that isnt tempting enough then more info be found here:
The Big Chill
1-3 August
With the Mighty Boosh confirmed to play the Big Chill is worth a more than a look on the first August weekend. But its not all Noel fielding and friends.. Bill Bailey is also attending as well as Robin Ince, and for the non comedian highlight of Leonard Cohen.
See the full Big Chill line-up here.
Reading and Leeds
22-24 August
Run by Latitude organisers Meanfillder the comedy tents at Reading and Leeds are, as expected packed with the big guns. Rock-star debutant and all round terrible sports writer Russell Brand is among a line-up which includes Alan Carr, Jim Jefferies, Marcus Brigstocke, Ed Byrne, Jarred Christmas, and the eponimously titled Esme Cheerleader Strip into Prom.See the full Reading and Leeds comedy line-up here, and for the official site here.
Pimm’s Summerfest – A Week of Laughter
27-30 August
Festival Republic are putting on a decent show with some big names heading down to Holland Park, including Jo Brand, up-and-coming arch-improviser Russell Howard, Lucy Porter, Stephen Lynch and the global Aussie phenomenon Puppetry of the Penis.
Bestival
5,6,7 September
Details are sketchy for Bestival but from what we can tell, a good Cabaret tent is shaping up, with The Knees Up, and another stage called Time For Tease. For the latest infor visit The Bestival site, but beware, fireworks lay in wait.
