Laughter Lounge comes to London Bridge

Abrasive veteran Phil Nichol reviewed by Julien Hunt

Luke Toulson's Laughter Lounge kicked off on Sunday October 21 with Kiwi stand up Jarred Christmas headlining the opening night. He managed to draw some big laughs from the crowd with his everyday observations delivered in his engaging conversational style.

His act was highly interactive and unless you’re the extroverted type I wouldn’t recommend sitting in the front row. There were some fantastic, if not immature, dinosaur gags and banter with the crowd kept his act fresh and interesting. Comedians James Sherwood and Tom Deacon also took to the stage and the night was hosted by the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year Luke Toulson.

The Laughter Lounge is set to run every Sunday night from 8pm at The Rembrandt in Tooley Street. Yes it is a lap dancing club, but sans the naked girls and sleazy men for the night. The drink prices remain however so expect two glasses of house wine to set you back a tenner. Having said that, entry is just £7, and for three hours of solid entertainment I think it’s money well spent and a great way to hang onto that last glimmer of the weekend.

Future acts include: Greg Davies, Dan Antopolski, Gordon Southern, Markus Birdman, Greg McHugh and Simon Brodkin over the coming weeks.

Info: Laughter Lounger @ The Rembrandt, Doors 7pm. £7 full price, £5 concession. Tel: 020 7378 9200

"Luke's no-bullshit attitude suits the meritocratic world of stand-up comedy. Not willing to schmooze his way up the ranks of actors, he just wants to perform." - Simon Jennings on Luke Toulson
