Secret Edinburgh: Barbershopera get drunk in the basement of a Mexican restaurant

Lara from Barbershopera has a lot of exclamation-marked love for the cheesiest of Mexican eateries...
I have many favourite haunts in Edinburgh – especially during festival time. There are so any fab vintage shops, scrummy restaurants, quirky bars and pretty streets.
The place I am going to talk about today, however, is a guilty pleasure, but it holds a dear place in my heart as we have ended up spending at least one crazy night there every year we have performed up at the Fringe!
From street level, Garibaldi's looks like your average Mexican restaurant...but by night, downstairs is an underground, sticky-walled club in New Town. Complete with a light-up dance floor, pole and giant fan, Garibaldi's has all the ingredients for the best cheesy, trashy night of fun!
The music is pop and Latino mixed in with a few retro favourites – dare I say it, the Five mega mix medley is an embarrassing favourite! Throw in a few frozen margaritas and essential good company and you’re in for a cracking night of silliness! Not for those of you who fancy sipping martinis at a sleek bar (I am a fan of both) but for a fun, carefree night of dancing and laughter it is worth a visit! I heart Garibaldis!!
Barbershopera are in The Three Musketeers at Pleasance Courtyard, 1-27 August, at 23:05. Get tickets at the Ed Fringe site here.
