Sara Pascoe continues our Secret Edinburgh series by getting hot and sweaty in the sauna at Warrender Pool.
My Favourite Place in Edinburgh is um, is a sauna. On the side of Warrender Pool. I love it in there. It’s all hot and dark, and womb like (if I was a multi-birth).
I also enjoy being very close to strangers with not very many clothes on. It makes me feel like a pack animal, just a few bald monkeys getting our sweat on.
The main reason it’s wonderful is because everyone there is a muggle and not doing an Edinburgh show, so you don’t have to listen to them whining like you do all your real friends.
My favourite conversation was between two men in there last year. One (black pants) said “think the festivals started, there are posters” and the other man (blue speedos, hairier) replied “what-already?”
This was the 20th of August, the festival was almost over.
“Are you going to see anything?” said blue pants
“NO, I went one year, everyone kept going on about this show, 5 stars, 5 stars, 5 stars, and then I went…and it was just some guy with a microphone”.
So that’s good isn’t it? Whenever I’m getting all anxious about my career and my show and my self, I remember I’m just some guy with a microphone. Just some bald-monkey guy with amplification.
COME SEE ME ANYWAY!
Sara Pascoe – The Musical is appearing at 9;15pm at The Assembly in George Square. See her Edinburgh Fringe listing here.
