Secret Edinburgh: Steve Shanyaski heads out to the beach

When the Edinburgh culture gets too much, head east for some coastal action, says Steve Shanyaski...
There’s a beach up past Musselburgh which I always drive to during the Festival. It’s the absolute opposite to the Fringe – solitary, silent, and visually expansive.
I go running up there usually, or just walk about picking up shells for the house back in England. It's always quite windy, but just a great place to go and get away from the chaos of the Fringe.
Being able to walk two miles without a single flyer for an improvised comedy troupe being thrust towards you is as close to heaven as possible in August.
Steve Shanyaski's Life-Survival Bible is at the Pleasance Courtyard, 14-6 August, at 23:00. More info at the Ed Fringe site here.
