The new Anchorman film will see Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy character deal with yet more changes as his beloved news station handles 24-hour rolling news.
In an interview with Empire magazine, director Adam McKay has revealed some of the plot details for the new film which will be set in 1978.
Speaking to the magazine McKay said: "It's right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in '78 or '79.
"All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you're talking about diversity and the Action News team, that's always fun to deal with."
The follow-up to the original 2004 Anchorman film had previously been slated for a run on Broadway, which has now been dropped. Other ideas which have been dropped are sending the Action News team into space.
Both McKay and Ferrell faced an uphill battle to get Anchorman 2 greenlit after Paramount Pictures opposed the sequel of the film. The sequel isn't expected anytime soon however, as both McKay and Ferrell have only five pages of notes on the film.
"We've done about two per cent! Half a per cent? We've got five pages of story notes and chunks of story. We're holing up writing for the next three months," McKay added.
A full interview with Adam McKay will be available in Empire Magazine on April 26.
