Frankie Boyle, Morgana Robinson and Robert Webb head Channel 4's autumn comedy season

Frankie Boyle is set to lead Channel 4’s new comedy line-up for the remainder of 2010 with a new series.

The broadcaster announced an autumn schedule packed with comedy including a new sketch-based comedy show with Morgana Robinson, Tom Davis and Terry Mynott.

Described as ‘Kenny Everett but without the beard’, Robinson is known to take on a range of characters either related to a celebrity or imitate the celebrity themselves, but in a different guise. Characters include Cheryl Cole’s little sister, Fearne Cotton as a daredevil, and a school-boy Boris Johnson.

Shane Allen, Channel 4’s head of comedy said: "Discovering, supporting and nurturing new talent is at the heart of Channel 4 comedy's remit, and in Morgana we really feel we've found a fresh performer with a huge amount of potential.

"Warm, daft and infectious, Morgana's range of charismatic characters somehow lodge in your head, and her style of performance is reminiscent of Kenny Everett in his prime, but without the beard."

Alongside Boyle and Robinson, Robert Webb is also set to make his solo debut on Channel 4, with an alternative news show alongside his more familiar role in Peep show.

Channel 4 announced its commitment to invest in new comedy and TV drama following the demise of Big Brother, which sucked up an estimated £50 million from the broadcaster’s budget each year.

Channel 4's acting chief creative officer, Julian Bellamy, said: "This is an exciting time for Channel 4 as we enter a period of creativity and innovation with more freedom to try new things.”
