Frisky and Mannish’s Matthew Jones is set to take to the theatre stage at the Edinburgh Fringe after being signed up to appear in Steven Bloomer’s new play PUNCH.

The new show, which is to be held at the Underbelly’s Belly Laugh, will see Jones play the role of a controversial comedian who is quizzed by social services about the condition of his baby daughter.

The theme of the dark play, (which we have been told is dark, dark, dark) is based loosely on the lives of comics such as Russell Brand, Frankie Boyle, Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks.

Jones will join Kirsty Mann for the month-long Fringe run from August 2 – 26.

Speaking about the show Jones said: “Being known for frivolous and feather-light pop parodies, I can't wait to sink my teeth into something as brutal as Punch.

“The things that make it a challenge - black humour, bleak subject matter - are precisely the things that have drawn me to it. Besides, what is the Edinburgh Fringe if not a brilliant opportunity to expand and experiment? I am beyond excited to be in such a wonderful, weird play."
