Michael Barrymore returns to stand-up with Comedy Store gig

The former TV entertainer delivered a 15-minute set after being brought on as an unannounced guest by host Ian Coppinger, but was booed off after a performance which was described as ‘rambling’.

 

Barrymore’s return to the stage comes ahead of his series of gigs in Blackpool later this year, and the comedian delved into a number of new gags about taking drugs, doner kebabs. Unfortunately none of the jokes went down well with the audience, mainly due to the comedian's demeanour.

 

One audience member tweeted: “Michael Barrymore was off his face when I saw him tonight in London. One of the saddest things I’ve witnessed in a long time. Total meltdown.”

 

Another audience member, Wes Shipley, from Birmingham, told The Express: “No one had any idea Michael Barrymore was appearing. I thought it was brilliant at first and clapped along with everyone to welcome him.

“But the guy has obviously no idea what he’s doing in a modern comedy club.

 

‘A lot of his jokes were old and out of place. And he sounded completely out of it.’

 

Barrymore is set to appear at Blackpool’s 1,200 capacity North Pier theatre every Saturday night from mid-July to the end of October.
