Stephen Merchant has quit his lucrative advertising contract with the troubled bank Barclays after citing ‘increasing commitments in the US’.
The comedian, who has been providing Barclays with his soft Bristolian accent for their commercials past couple of years, ended the contract early.
According to the Evening Standard legal letters were exchanged between the two parties before a settlement was reached.
Barclays was recently fined a whopping £289 million by the Financial Services Authority for fixing inter-banking interest rates.
Merchant had faced calls to quit from his ad deal with Barclays, with spoof videos appearing online of Merchant’s Barclays ads.
