Stewart Lee is heading to Comedy Central after being signed up to host a new show called The Alternative Comedy Experience.
The 12-part talent show has been commissioned by the cable channel, and will focus on alternative and ‘cult’ comedians who aren’t seen on regular TV shows such as The Comedy Roadshow or Live At The Apollo.
Lee is set to host the show and conduct interviews with the comedians who according to Broadcast Now include Robin Ince, Simon Munnery, Phil Nichol, and Maeve Higgins.
The shows are set to be recorded at The Stand prior to the Edinburgh Fringe before being shown on Comedy Central this autumn.
The show is another scoop for The Stand, which is due to take on the redeveloped Assembly Rooms venues at the forthcoming Edinburgh Fringe.
The new show forms part of a boost in original programming for Comedy Central, which has up to 20 new projects in development.
Sarah Farrell, who commissioned the series said: "This is the first time there has been a vehicle to show how funny and accessible 'alternative' stand-up comedy can be."
