The political comedy series Yes, Prime Minister is set for an onstage revival after a 22-year hiatus.
The political comedy is set to open at the Chichester Festival on May 13 - the same month that Britian’s general election is expected to be called - for a three-week run.
The play is set to encompass a similar format to the television series with David Haig and Henry Goodman taking up the roles immortalised by Paul Eddington and Nigel Hawthorne.
According to the authors Jonathan Lynn and Sir Antony Jay, the play has been on the cards for a number of years: “People have been asking us for years about writing a play,” says Lynn. “We were always hesitant.”
Though both writers will not be drawn on the reasons for the new collaboration, it is thought that the recent MPs expenses scandal is one of the reasons behind the revival of the series as a play.
Yes, Prime Minister runs May 13 to June 5 as part of this year’s Chichester Festival. Details: 01243 781312 or www.cft.org.uk
