Skins-a-like Show to Launch on BBC

Sex, drugs and skinny jeans...again

A new sitcom, created by a former contributer to Channel 4 teen fuckfest Skins, is in production for the BBC.

18-year-old writer Tim Dawson's Coming Of Age will follow five friends – Tom, Lucy, Jas, DK and James – as they "suffer the delights, surprises and embarrassments of being 17". The show has been described by the BBC as "a witty, observational sitcom written by someone who knows what's it like to be a teenager".

While the BBC have been quick to emphasis the "pioneering" nature of their show, critics have argued that they are simply plagiarising content, as bed-hopping, pill-popping adolescents are a subject matter that Skins has already covered in its self-consciously cool way.

Part of SSP longs for the time when Grange Hill's Kevin Jenkins mistakenly taking LSD and threatening to jump off a roof was enough to spark an anti-drugs campaign. Those were the days...
