Guinness 'Grail' sought after by coconut-wielding crowd on St George’s Day
Trafalgar Square will soon be ringing with the clip-clop of coconut shells as thousands attempt to break the world record for the largest coconut orchestra.
In a salute to English humour, this year’s St George’s Day celebrations will culminate with cast members from Monty Python spin-off Spamalot leading a public "clip-clop" in time to 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'.
The current record stands at 1,789 and was set in March 2006, outside the Shubert Theater New York, to celebrate the first birthday of Spamalot's Broadway production.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone said that English comedy was "internationally acclaimed" and that Monty Python’s coconut orchestra world record attempt was testament to "the uniqueness of English humour".
Absolutely Ken, English humour is unique. And we haven’t produced anything as worthy in over thirty years since Monty Python first hit our screens.
