Drink! Feck! Girls! Goooal!
Irish islands Inis Mor and Inis Oirr have finally settled their argument over who can claim to be the true home of Father Ted, with a five-a-side football match.
The historical match was the centrepiece of the first ever Friends of Ted festival, held to commemorate the sitcom's star, Dermot Morgan, who died nine years ago. Both islands claim to be the spiritual home of the Channel 4 show, although most of it was actually filmed in County Clare or London.
Cider-quaffing nuns and swearing priests descended on the island for a weekend of unholy debauchery, while a shot of celebrity was added by the arrival of Irish football greats John Aldridge and Tony Cascarino to manage the two sides. Sadly rumours of an appearance from frightening baldy ref Pierluigi Collina proved just that.
In the end Inis Mor took the tie 2-0 to claim the much yearned-for prize, as dog-collared fans cheered them on. The weekend hosted a series of other events including a Hide a Nun and Seek competition, but it was the football that attracted the attention; well, that and the Lovely Girls Contest of course.
