Clergy spice up sermons with ‘out of the box’ thinking
Members of Leicester’s clergy had their sermons livened up this week as part of the city’s annual comedy festival.
Comedian Andy Kind ran workshops with the priests to help them improve their Sunday morning sermons with body language and jokes.
The idea came about after a local clergyman did a stand-up routine at the Leicester Comedy Festival two years ago.
"Christianity is not seen as accessible by the majority of people. If we want the Gospel message to engage with people spiritually, then we must first learn to better engage with them in human terms," Kind said.
"It made the vicars think differently about how they were talking. It involved a lot of liberated and ‘out of the box’ thinking," a spokeswoman from Leicester Diocesan agreed.
