The usual suspects line up for another awards show
The rambling comedy stylings of beardy lothario Russell Brand are up against a documentary about race riots and the urban thriller Soundproof in the Royal Television Society's 2007 TV Awards.
While Brand is up for Best Breakthrough Award, Catherine Tate (The Catherine Tate Show), Stephen Merchant (Extras) and Kevin Bishop (Star Stories) will be slugging it out for the title of Best Comedy Performance in a ceremony that's set to rival the BAFTAs for backslapping and glitz.
Extras is, unsurprisingly, up for best sitcom alongside Green Wing and The Royle Family, which have also earned respective writers Victoria Pile and Caroline Aherne nominations.
Meanwhile, pop kid Simon Amstell will be battling with Harry Hill and Alan Carr in the category of Best Entertainment Performance. Our money's on the moptop.
Brand's not the only comedian up for a non-comedy award. Stephen Fry has been nominated for Best Documentary and misanthropic hack Charlie Brooker is up for Best Digital Programme for Screenwipe.
Winners will be announced on March 13th.
