Dad’s Army Revival to Storm the Stage
Don’t panic! Don’t panic! Missing episodes turn up at the theatre
Classic BBC Saturday night tea-time fodder, Dad’s Army, is set to be revived as a stage show, starring Leslie ‘Captain Hook’ Grantham as dodgy geezer Private Walker. The show is set to open in Stevenage on 3 September before invading the rest of the UK in spring 2008.
The show will include two episodes which have gone AWOL from the Beeb vaults. In the first, gloomy Scotsman Private Fraser becomes a power-crazed maniac following a promotion, while the second has shady spiv, Walker, trying to avoid conscription.
And who will be leading the brave men of Walmington-on-Sea home guard as complete banker Captain Mainwaring? That’s right, Peter ‘Len from Emmerdale’ Martin. Who do they think they’re kidding?
