…but a million more people prefer My Family
Harry Enfield's return to television sketch comedy delivered a solid 4.7 million viewers for the BBC last Friday evening. His new show, Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry And Paul, is a joint collaboration with ex-Fast Show stalwart Paul Whitehouse.
Aside from his shouty appearances as Tony’s father in Skins, mildly amusing mid-nineties star Enfield has not graced the TV schedules since his flop show Celeb in 2002. Whitehouse and Enfield have re-united on this project for the first time since Harry Enfield And Chums. New characters for the series include “Laurel and Hardy in Brokeback Mountain” and “The fat kids Jamie and Oliver.” No, we’re not making this up.
Elsewhere, in a damning indictment for the intelligence of the British public, My Family recorded 5.7 million viewers, but pleasingly 200,000 more joined for the start of the new series of Have I Got News For You. Meanwhile awkward-fest Peep Show attracted 1.2 million viewers for the launch of its fourth series on Channel 4, coming a distant and undeserved last in the battle for Friday night comedy ratings.
