Popular quiz show gains new lease of life
Long running political comedy quiz Have I Got News For You has been confirmed for a new six series deal with the BBC. The show, featuring team leaders Paul Merton and Ian Hislop, is one of the BBC’s top rated programmes.
Production company Hat Trick has also agreed to produce a weekly video podcast of the show with additional material as part of the three year deal, as well as an extended version of the show which will be shown in its Saturday evening repeat slot on BBC Two.
Have I Got News For You, now in its thirty-third series on BBC One, has continued to up-hold its reputation for razor sharp digs at government figures, despite losing presenter Angus Deayton after drugs allegations in 2002.
In past series a range of high profile guest presenters have taken the helm with varying levels of success. Among the more memorable are Jack Dee, Charlotte Church, Joan Collins and Des Lynam, as well as various political figures, including former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy and notorious Tory Boris Johnson.
Jimmy Mulville, Managing Director of Hat Trick Productions, said: “Everyone involved with the programme is really happy that Have I Got News For You is in such a strong position and in its right home for the next three years.”
