Lucas and Walliams' Perfect Night In

A jolly wander through the telly minds of Britain’s infamous comedy duo

If it was possible to have a degree in TV (God, it probably is these days) Lucas and Walliams could invent the syllabus. While Monty Python refer to medieval texts, this double act scatter telly box references throughout their sketches. They’ve spoofed an episode of Jim’ll Fix It in which Cub Scouts ate hamburgers on a rollercoaster, worship Are You Being Served, and love reality TV in all its guises.

Who better then to lead us through their selection of top quality Sunday night viewing. Everything was there, from fond memories of Hi-De-Hi! and the Young Ones to more recent televisual fodder such as Big Brother and I'm Alan Partridge. All narrated in a mock-solemn-but-is-it manner, with Walliams and Lucas taking turns to interview each other.

There were some real gems too. A clip from Network 7, one of the first trendy magazine-style programmes on TV, was fascinating. Plus, a excerpt from I’m Your Number One Fan, in which a woman falsely believed she was married to Mike Read (of all people) was brilliantly odd.

Next week Simon Pegg and Nick Frost lead us through their perfect sofa-bound evening. They’ve got a tough act to follow.
