The writer, from the ancient poet Homer to the latest blogger with an idea, the role of a writer is one of the central forms of both our civilisation and communication as human beings.
The job is also pretty vital if you want to put on a fabulously funny TV sitcom too, not only to put your thoughts down on paper (more of that invention another time) but also to write those letters to TV commissioners, editors and anyone who may be there to help yoour idea come to fruition.
Some of our favourite comedy writers are, in no particular order: David Mitchell, Armando Ianucci, Charlie Brooker, Sam Bain, Jesse Armstrong, John Plowman, Graham Linehan, Andy Hamilton, Simon Amstell and David Swimer. But there are way too many to mention here.
